Is it time for LUNCH yet? Campers must bring a lunch each day including field trip days. We do not provide refrigeration so most campers bring lunch in an insulated lunch box with an ice pack.
Does Fun-N-Sun provide lunch? Parents have the option of ordering lunch every day except field trip days. Our food entrees include pizza, tacos, chicken tenders, and hot dogs, and are provided by Domino’s, Taco Bell, and Sammie’s. Sides include chips, fresh fruit, Rice Krispie Treats or cookies, and juice or Gatorade for a beverage. Parents order and pay online.
What about concessions? Our LITs operate a snack store each morning during snack time. They sell apple juice, Gatorade, Rice Krispie Treats, Goldfish Crackers, chips, and other snack items. Items cost $.50 – $1.00. Please send money in a labeled Ziploc bag.
What if my child is not a good swimmer? “Beginner Campers” enjoy the water at the Grayslake Aquatic Center Splash Park and do not go to the swimming pool. Every “Base Camper” takes a swim test at the Grayslake Aquatic Center and is given a colored wristband designating what areas of the pool they are qualified in which to swim. Less experienced swimmers must stay in the zero entry area or play
in the sandbox. We station our counselors in strategic areas in and around the pool to ensure that campers are well supervised.
AGE GROUPINGS AND COUNSELOR-TO-CAMPER RATIOS
How are campers divided into age groups? Campers are divided into the following age groupings: Four year olds (Fab 4s), Kindergarten-Grade 1 (K-1), Grades 2-3, Grades 4-5, and Grades 6-8. Grades 6-8 is divided into two groups, the “Girls Group” and the “Guys Group.” Our counselor-to-camper ratio for Beginner Camp is 1:4 counselor to campers. Base Camp is 1:7 with each group having a counselor intern as well. We have even lower ratios on field trips (like 1:3 or 1:4) to ensure great supervision of your child.
What if my child has a medical condition, will counselors administer medication? We will do our best to care for your child. Upon registration, you will be asked to explain medical conditions and list medications. Our camp directors will administer medications and counselors will carry inhalers, epi-pens, or other medications with them on all outings.
What if my child has food allergies? Upon registering you will be asked to explain allergies and treatments for them. This will show up on the camper reports. Each morning when you drop off your child they will receive a unique wristband that signifies the camper has an allergy. This reminds all counselors to watch out for and protect the camper from harmful allergens.
